COE Alumni Awards Ceremony

Each year, the College of Engineering recognizes, with an induction ceremony, select alumni who have contributed to the profession, advanced their careers, and enhanced the lives of others both personally and professionally.  These outstanding alumni are reviewed by committees within each of the nine schools within the College and formally submitted for selection.  The distinctive categories are listed below.

Engineering Hall of Fame

Membership in the Engineering Hall of Fame is reserved for individuals holding an engineering degree or honorary degree from Georgia Tech who have made sustained and meritorious engineering and/or managerial contributions during their careers. Although there is no age limit on membership in the Engineering Hall of Fame, it is expected that members will have reached the pinnacle of their professional achievements and will likely be senior citizens at the time of their election; in fact, it is likely that they will have retired from full-time professional employment. After the first year, it is expected that no more than 10 individuals will be inducted into the Engineering Hall of Fame annually.

Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni

The Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award is intended for alumni of Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering who have sustained and distinguished contributions to the profession, field, Institute, or society at large. Recipients of the award will become members in the Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni. The individuals for whom the award is intended bring distinction to the Institute. The award recipients will be recognized for their professional and personal success. They will be widely regarded and respected; they will carry such labels as engineer, manager, entrepreneur, leader, professional, and philanthropist. It is expected that candidates will still be actively involved in engineering or management at the time of nomination. It is likely that the individuals selected for the award will be highly placed executives in industry, academia, and government; additionally, astronauts, attorneys, bankers, CEO’s and COO’s, consultants, university presidents, chaired professors, members of the National Academy of Engineering, physicians, and vice presidents of engineering will be represented in the Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni. To be eligible, the nominee must have been enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Engineering.  Candidates must be 40 years or older at the time of the nomination deadline. It is expected that no more than 15 individuals will be selected for the Academy each year.

Council of Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni

The Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni Award recipients will become members of the Council of Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni; membership is reserved for alumni of Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering who have distinguished themselves through professional practice and/or service to the Institute, profession, or society at large. Recipients will be on the “fast track” and will be viewed to be strong candidates for the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award at some future date. They will have made early career contributions that cause them to be considered as future leaders in their profession or field. It is expected that the recipients will have made a number of specific engineering achievements, held positions of significant leadership, made rapid advancement within their organizations and/or been recognized for early professional achievements by others within their profession, field, or organization. Candidacy is established by having been enrolled in the College of Engineering as an undergraduate or a graduate student. Candidates must be under 40 years of age at the time of the nomination deadline. It is expected that no more than 15 individuals will be selected for the Council annually.
