Graduate Women's Initiative

In an effort to build stronger communities within the College of Engineering, WIE sponsors the Graduate Women’s Initiative.  This student-run program is designed to encourage and foster a positive graduate student experience outside the laboratory and classroom.   Graduate students in individual engineering schools define and operate their own initiatives, in addition to gathering as a College-wide body to share issues of common interest.  Activities include:

Welcoming New Graduate Students

Connecting new graduate students with others in the department (Big and Little Sister Program, becoming involved in the graduate recruitment process, hosting a graduate welcome reception.)

Seminars

Organizing a seminar series on topics such as the tenure process, recruiting and advising students, faculty and community service, to inform and prepare graduate students for academic careers.

Supporting Graduate Students

Providing programs and services that will support graduate studies (connecting students with faculty, particularly female faculty; organizing small groups to preview and critique dissertations and presentations.)

Information Clearinghouse

Keeping graduate students informed of the many programs and services available to them at Georgia Tech through WIE, the Women’s Resource Center, Career Services, etc.
