Corporate engagement is a crucial aspect of the Women in Engineering program, and the granting of corporate scholarship is the annual expression of WIE’s industry partners’ shared commitment to encouraging greater female participation in engineering professions and careers.

Each company defines their own unique parameters regarding scholarships they wish to give, and WIE reviews and recommends deserving students for these awards.

Eligibility begins with the students’ academic performance—the basic qualification is a cumulative GPA of 3.35 (high honors) or above.  Students then compose an essay outlining their future professional aspirations, and submit this with their resume.  These applications are matched with the interests of corporate scholarship sponsors.

In 2009, over $120,000 of corporate scholarships were awarded to over 100 outstanding students.  These scholarships were sponsored by the following corporations:

  • Air Products
  • Alcoa Inc.
  • Boeing
  • Eaton Corporation
  • Ford Motor Company
  • Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
  • John Deere Foundation
  • Kimberly-Clark Corporation
  • Lockheed Martin Corporation
  • Miliken
  • Northrop Grumman Corporation
  • Rockwell Automation, Inc.
  • Schlumberger Limited
  • Shell
  • Street Smarts
  • Texas Instruments Incorporated
  • Wilmer Engineering
