COE Faculty Member Receives Paul L. Busch Award

Jaehong Kim, Civil and Environmental Engineering Associate Professor at Georgia TechCivil and Environmental Engineering Associate Professor, Jaehong Kim, was recently presented with the 9th Annual Paul L. Busch Award by the Water Environment Research Foundation’s (WERF) Endowment for Innovation in Applied Water Quality Research.

The award will help support Kim’s research efforts in developing technologies which harness the power of sunlight in to improve onsite water and wastewater treatment systems. WERF cited Kim’s work in adapting materials originally developed for laser optics into cost-effective coating that converts sunlight into germicidal UV radiation. Kim’s long term research goal is to improve the drinking water process of sunlight disinfection which would improve water quality in developing nations.

The Paul L Busch Award is one of the largest in the water quality industry and supports researchers with a “visionary spirit” who are devising new technologies and solutions for addressing water quality issues.
