COE Associate Dean Named President-Elect for IIE Board of Trustees

Dr. Jane Ammons, Associate Dean for Faculty AffairsCOE associate dean for faculty affairs and professor of industrial engineering, Dr. Jane Ammons, has been elected as the President-Elect for the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE).  Ammons has been a member of IIE for more than 30 years and serves on the industrial engineering deans’ council and as an evaluator for the industrial engineering program with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).  She served as the secretary to the IIE Board of Trustees from 1999-2001, chaired the Trustees of the IIE Scholarship Fund, and received an IIE Transactions Award for Best Feature Application Paper.

Ammons received her bachelors and masters degrees in industrial engineering from the University of Alabama and her doctorate in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech.  Her areas of expertise include production systems design and analysis, manufacturing systems, reverse logistics, and continuous quality improvement.  She has chaired the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Advisory Committee and the U.S. NSF Advisory Committee for the Division of Design and Manufacturing.  Currently Dr. Ammons serves a member of the Technical Committee for the Uganda: Millennium Science Initiative (MSI) Project co-financed by the World Bank.

The organization was founded in 1948 and has approximately 15,000 members and 280 chapters worldwide.  IIE’s primary mission is to meet the ever-changing needs of industrial engineers, including undergraduate and graduate students, engineering practitioners and consultants in all industries, engineering managers, and engineers in education, research, and government.
