ME Student Awarded Tau Beta Pi Scholarship

Tau Beta Pi: The Engineering Honor Society LogoMechanical Engineering student Huan Du was recently awarded a Tau Beta Scholarship for 2008-2009. The Tau Beta Pi Association Scholarship Program was established in 1998 with five awards named in honor of former Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus R.H. Nagel. In six years, awards of $2,000 each have been made to 221 Scholars for their senior year of full-time engineering studies. Huan is the current president of the Georgia Tech chapter which was established on the campus in 1925.

Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation's second-oldest honor society, founded at Lehigh University in 1885 to recognize those who have conferred honor upon their alma mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering. The honor can also be given to alumni for their attainments in the field of engineering. There are now collegiate chapters at 234 U.S. colleges and universities, active alumnus chapters in 16 districts across the country, and a total initiated membership of 497,729.
