COE Town Hall Meeting – May 13, 2008

Don Giddens at podium of Town Hall MeetingCOE Dean, Don Giddens, met with approximately 100 engineering faculty and staff members in a town hall meeting to review the past five years as well as to discuss future opportunities and challenges for the college.

Citing numerous accomplishments for the College of Engineering since 2003, Giddens highlighted efforts to recruit and retain a diverse faculty, the emerging focus on international programs, and the increasing number of doctoral students and Ph.D. degrees awarded. Giddens congratulated the faculty for the impressive results and strides that the college has made during his tenure as dean.

In discussing with the COE faculty opportunities and challenges for the coming years, Giddens outlined several goals that he urged the faculty and administrators to help meet by the year 2010. Stressing not to recognize COE as a silo, the Dean asked that the faculty continue to capitalize on interdisciplinary strengths within the college and to continue efforts in strategic research areas such as energy, environment, and security. He also cited the need to continue to increase enrollment in doctoral programs and to enhance the undergraduate experience.
