Tech Tower

On November 11 and 12 the foundation hosted its 8th All Star Celebrity Classic in Las Vegas, featuring a dinner, auction, and celebrity golf event. Entertainers at the celebrity dinner included Jeffrey Osborne, Cedric the Entertainer and Brian McKnight while the guest speakers at the dinner consisted of Google's Vic Gundotra, technology entrepreneur Paul McNab, and the dean of the Georgia Tech College of Engineering, Gary S. May.

Dean May was invited to the event specifically to speak to the Mr October Foundation for Kids supporters about Georgia Tech's efforts to recruit underrepresented minority students into engineering fields. The Georgia Tech College of Engineering is the largest producer of female and African-American engineers in the country, is the top producer of Hispanic graduate students in engineering fields and leads all schools in total engineering degrees awarded to minority students.

As a result of Dean May's presentation, the College of Engineering and the Mr. October Foundation for Kids are in discussions to form a potential partnership which would focus on programs run by the CoE Engineering Education Outreach office.

Reggie Jackson previously visited Georgia Tech in September and met with Dean May, prompting him to offer the dean an invitation to speak at the All Star Celebrity Classic.
