Student Honors

Andrew Harris, Electrical Engineering.  Academic Internship Student Achievement Award from the Cooperative Education & Internship Association. Academic Internship Student Achievement Award recognizes an outstanding student enrolled in a four-year or five-year degree program who has participated in an academic internship between September 1 of the previous year and August 31 of the nominating year. Read more about Andrew and his award. He was selected by a panel of judges from across the country and it is the first time an Intern from Georgia Tech has won this distinguished award. His nomination was supported by Microsoft-his internship employer.

Jason Shieh, Mechanical Engineering. Ed and Faye Griggs Scholarship from the Pi Tau Sigma national convention. Pi Tau Sigma members are chosen on a basis of sound engineering ability, scholarship (upper 35%), personality, and probable future success in their chosen field of Mechanical Engineering.

Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering (WECE). Georgia Tech Student Branch's IEEE Women in Engineering group received the IEEE Atlanta Section Outstanding Performance Award. This award is for the extent and quality of activities and programs offered to WECE members, their efforts to keep their members engaged and informed, and their community outreach. Members of WECE will accept this award at the IEEE Atlanta Section Annual Banquet on April 2. Founded in 2004 by a group of five female students, WECE has grown to a membership of over 300 women in the last eight years. The group has created a community within the School that educates, encourages, and supports academic, professional, and social opportunities for women.

Allison Del Giorno, Electrical Engineering. Winner of the Love Family Foundation Scholarship, the highest award for graduating seniors at GT.

Eric Powers, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Winner of the Davidson Family Tau Beta Pi Senior Engineering Cup, the highest award for a graduating senior in engineering.

Layla Marshall, Electrical Engineering. Winner of the Helen Grenga Outstanding Woman Engineer Award, highest award for a  woman engineering student.

 

Faculty Honors

Jonathan Colton, Mechanical Engineering. Selected as a Jefferson Science Fellow for the U.S. State Department/USAID for the 2013-2014 year. The Jefferson Science Fellows (JSF) program at the U.S. Department of State was established to engage the American academic science, technology, engineering and medical communities in the formulation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy.

Craig Forest, Mechanical Engineering. Winner of two Faculty Honors awards this year. The 1940 Roane Beard Outstanding Teacher Award for his teaching excellence which includes teaching his extraordinary efforts in teaching, inspiration transmitted to students, direct impact and involvement with students, intellectual integrity and scholarship, and impact on post graduate success of students. Forest also received the Class of 1934 Outstanding Innovative Use of Education Technology award, recognizing him for developing and instituting innovative techniques to improve the learning environment and the learning process.

Vigor Yang, Aerospace Engineering. Yang received the 2013 W. R. Marshall Award from the Institute of Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems (ILASS) in recognition of your group's work on droplet breakup and dynamics. ILASS - Americas, like other ILASS bodies, is an organization of industrialists, researchers, academics, and students engaged in professional activities connected with the spraying of liquids.
